found

While it was not the heat seeking helicopters that found the child, the child was indeed found. Spending 3 nights in the forest must have been quite an experience for a 3 year old. He luckily had a bright coloured blue coat that resulting in his discovery. At any rate, a good news story as he was alive and well.

Yesterday was a day of interviews so it made for a long day.

I had to run an errand downtown and I had to wear a hat and mitts. Luckily it didn't rain too much on me. Waiting for warmer weather.

heat seeking helicopters

Some difficulties were resolved today though the shock waves are still being felt in my email.

There is a small child missing in the northern regions with lakes. Gone 2 days, not looking too good.

I went down to the water at lunch today and got to mainly hear the long tailed ducks as they were further out into the lake and harder to see as not much of them shows above the surface. It was still pretty chilly for a walk but I did make it in shoes instead of boots.

Tomorrow is an interview day so a busy one. I plan to do my shopping at Loblaws for the week tomorrow at 8am so I don't have to shop again until after Easter. Hoping I don't forget anything crucial!

long tailed ducks

While I spent most of the day online with various services, I did make it down to the water. I saw some white bits on the water that at first I thought was some sort of garbage but then I realized that they were alive. They seemed to be ducks who were mostly under the water. I hadn't seen them before. I only saw one other person by the water and while I was looking at the ducks (or trying to look as the case was as they were difficult to see being out in the lake and mostly underwater) she came over and said hello to me and I asked her if she knew what they were. It turned out that she knew quite a lot and as she lived alone because of covid she didn't have many people to talk to so she was happy to talk to me. Apparently they are long tailed ducks:

I really only saw the heads but I heard them talking and they were quite interesting.

I went to shoppers in the morning to pick up more supplies. It was pretty empty. I watched the end of the elevation service, then the rustle service, then a video a friend sent me, then rustle had a special workshop on mental health, then the university age students put on a praise and power evening of music.

It was rainy most of the day but my walks were in breaks (unplanned but that is how it worked out)

Tomorrow is back to meetings and emails.

soccer player

I just raked all the winter debris left on the lawn and filled the green bin again. There is still another green bin worth on the lawn in a pile.
I also swept the driveway which was hard work- harder that I would think! I may be sore tomorrow.
Going to eat some of the leftover soggy brownies that are not bad with coconut yogurt!

coats

In these changing seasons I have a number of coats out and try to pick the best one for the day. Today was back to the winter coat. I went to Loblaws and Shoppers and they both weren't too busy. Things were warming up by the end of my trips. So that was good.

I'm hoping to spend the day cleaning except for 1pm there is a nationwide prayer service.

Leftover tortellini soup for dinner. Chickens were on sale at Loblaws so that will be Sun and Mon dinner.

Loblaws will be closed April 2 and 4. I had forgotten. Last year at this time the lineups outside supermarkets were long. I think the number of people allowed in was much less. Our small shoppers has a sign saying the limit is 121 people. I can't think how 121 people could all squeeze in the shoppers but anyway, the limits seem to be higher than last year. Will try to get everything I need by Tues to avoid the Wed and Thurs shopping chaos.

In between

Before work I stopped in at Food Basics. It had been pouring rain before I started out and I expected to be soaked but it did not start pouring again until just after I got back. I had dressed with the expectation of changing when I got home but I did not need to.

A number of meetings with changing scenarios for Sept.

James got hit in the arm with a puck in the game today so is going to have to take it easy for the weekend.

Made tortellini soup but made it too watery. Then made brownies and I think I cooked them at the wrong temperature. Not going right today.

limeless

The meals this week again had lemons substituted for limes. And the boat hadn't even blocked the canal yet!

Things are on track for the course now as I had less meetings today. Tomorrow I have a timetable committee meeting and I start interviews for our TA positions for next year.

The weather was nice after a night of rain and I walked out to run an errand. There were people outside and it felt more normal. Even though it wasn't.

accident clean up

This week has been a number of long nights as I try to keep on top of everything.

I did get a walk in today after I heard a fire truck whiz by the house. I decided to take a walk and see what it was about. There was a minor car accident a few blocks away. By the time I had walked there the tow trucks were already there and by the time I passed it on the way back it was all cleaned up. Very efficient accident clean up. I wish I could be so efficient!

Dr. Moore expresses his concern over the rise in cases and the risk in o...

The weather was finally nice today to not wear a hat and mitts in the afternoon.
I went to Food Basics this morning (needed the hat and mitts then). There weren't a lot of people but one guy was stocking up and had a whole cart full of meat. Luckily he left a few packages for me and I have chicken in the slow cooker for tonight.
I watched elevation church (Sermon on pride) and Rustle (sermon on community living and thinking of others ahead of yourself)
Then headed out to see an apartment with Christine. I spoke with the agent about how difficult it has been for her to get a place. He did sympathize. He seemed to like her but he is not the one making the decisions. Her phone got stolen again and she left to go with Kyla to get a new one.
Today we have a service for Amanda.
Nice to see the sunshine!

library

Today was an almost pre-pandemic normal so that was weird. I was up early and did some cleaning. I went to Shoppers and they were sold out of a few things but I got most things. Went for a walk with Kim. Went to a library that I discovered was open.

Even though Halton hills may be closed I placed an amazon order (I waited a week). Kind of interested to see how it tracks.

yellow

Our case numbers have gone up so we are entering into yellow. James' hockey bubble is so far holding.

Gill posted that Dave passed away today. Very sad.

COVID-19 Vaccine Pharmacy Initiative and Mass Clinic Age Eligibility Expand

I thought the pharmacies were only doing Astrazeneca which I didn't think was approved here for over 65 so this is an interesting development.

lack of limes

2 of the chef's plate had some lime sauces but the limes were replaced by lemons. Still good but there must be a lack of limes somewhere to lead to this.

Today was turkey curry with roasted aloo gobi- very good. Potato, cauliflower and onion roasted in the oven with turkey on top.

Yesterday was turkey salad- the turkey was cooked first and then the veggies in the same pan but that made the bottom of the pan pretty black. It turned out ok but I might have used a different pan if I knew the burning that would happen. The veggies and turkey went on top of the salad with crispy shallots on top. It was a "balanced" choice.

The day before was Italian sausage and mozzarella calzone which I think I have made before. I like their calzones when they don't have mushrooms in it. I don't like mushrooms :(

We seem to have had a pretty sudden spike in cases and are tripping quickly toward yellow. There were apparently 2 restaurants with a case. I don't know what it means for restaurants in yellow.

I was working on timetabling today. Timetabling into an uncertain world! Layers of challenge.

Why did KFL&A Public Health revise and extend the class order

stacking

Our case #s are stacking up.

I went to Loblaws this morning- early enough that there weren't many people about. A day of working through email and timetabling. After work, dropped off Sarah's birthday present. Made dinner (turkey salad). We to an online CR organizational meeting then went to a ladies group (also online). It was a long and tiring day!

James is still enjoying hockey.

Youtube

I made my first youtube video. It is for work though so probably not relevant for other audiences.

Yesterday the bunny was out at 7am. It evidently was a fan of the time change. Today I went out to pick up garbage that had blown into the backyard at about 4pm and as I was picking things up I realized that I was not alone. The bunny was out eating grass and not minding me too much. I hung out to watch. Eventually it went under the deck. I am not sure why as there was no greenery but I tried to watch. However, shortly after the bunny went under the porch a very large rat also went under the porch. For a short while I was the only one that knew that they both were under there. But after a few seconds they both made that realization and both shot out from under the porch in opposite directions. While I like bunnies, I am not keen on rats.

variant

Apparently our outbreak is one of a  variant so they are more worried about it than a regular outbreak.

I popped downtown to do the rustle deposit which was a nice walk in the morning before I started work.

Monday is always a busy day as all the problems from the weekend spill into the day.

There was a mental health workshop led by Tay at Rustle today- I watched online.

got away

Last night there was a hit and run near rustle where a car hit a man walking a dog. The dog passed away and the man is in critical condition. Police found the car later but not the driver, though I assume having the car is a good step of the way.

In the morning I went to Food basics to get groceries for the week. It was not too busy and I managed to make it through quickly.

Back for Rustle which apparently was full in person- I watched it online. I need to stop by and pick up some materials tonight but am baking brownies for James first. Using the extra hour of daylight in the evening to my advantage. At least I think that is where the extra hour went.

amazon halton hills shut down

The amazon location that supplies most of eastern ontario has shut down and workers are isolating for 2 weeks. Not so good for supplies. I assume that amazon will try to appeal. 2 weeks will certainly mess up the supply chain for a while.

I went to shoppers to pick up sales this morning. They were out of toilet paper. An uptick in cases apparently affects toilet paper supply. And they were saying March 2021 is just like March 2020 but with toilet paper.

There was a lot of wind yesterday that blew cold weather in so I was back to boots, hat and mitts today that I did not need yesterday.

There was a big accident with a transport and some small cars overnight. Fatality and fire so the 401 is closed. There were big rigs coming down princess st even though it is not the emergency route. Not everyone follows instructions.

after effects

The outbreak has grown slightly but many are testing negative. Lots of isolation. Our run of green appears to have broken down as we inch toward yellow. There are cases in the residence, cases in the community.

As a post to yesterday when I didn't leave the house I took 2 trips today- one to Loblaws and one to shoppers. It was nice enough weather to wear shoes again but a cold wind has blown in today and turned the numbers negative.

Tomorrow I have to run some errands but I expect to be wearing boots again.

When I was walking down Park st. I saw a police forensics van at one of the apartment buildings I'm not sure what that was about.

outbreak

Today was meeting day so it was a busy one. I didn't go outside. Apparently it was warmer but grey and overcast.

Made hearty chilli tonight with nice biscuits.

There is an outbreak at Queen's. Almost all residences are locked down. We'll see what effects that has.

shoes

Today was the first day of the year that I wore shoes outside instead of boots! I wore my winter coat but by the end of my walk it was too warm for the winter coat.

We started the day meeting with teams who are developing a new project for our course. Then working on emails and solving problems during the day.

Made turkey with couscous, very nice and pretty easy.

James played hockey today. His team lost 5-0 but I think he was happy to be playing again.

I had a meeting with some ladies from Toronto in the evening and they seem uncertain about the vaccine. One of my friends here who is a health care worker got the first shot of vaccine today and became quite ill which is not good.

Recovery from Monday

Today I dealt with problems all day, as per the usual. Got caught up on some email but still have lots more to go.

Made lemon chicken with orzo for dinner.

James is enjoying the hockey.

Mondays are the longest days

I started on email early, got James out the door to hockey. He is happy but also it is a stressful season. Prepared a presentation for our training session. Reviewed a lot of grades. We are still getting midterm project grades in and we have professionalism grades to post (tomorrow because my eyes are too tired today) Also working on Physics final marks. Did the training session. Had a lovely chicken dinner. Then had to review a paper that Brian is writing as it was due today. Then had a lot of things to wrap up from the training session. And now I sleep!

Rafters

Last night was a bit broken so I slept in longer than usual and went to Food basics a bit later than usual. It was a bit busier but still pretty early so still went well. I picked up some chicken for the next few days and some more juice.

Watched Elevation and Rustle.

In the afternoon reviewed presentation files.

Had to hop over to Rustle to try to find something, but did not succeed.

Rewatched elevation in the evening and found it better the second time.

1 can take down 10000

Woke up this morning because electronic things get grumpy when the power goes out:

Power restored to Central Kingston, intermittent outages possible - Utilities Kingston

I don't know what the 1 person was doing that took down the whole network but the utilities people were busy today. Also busy- firefighters- as some fire alarms malfunction when missing power.

It was back on in time to work though.

English cottage pie for dinner.

project midterm reports

I didn't realize I hadn't posted in a few days. It has been a bit of a blur. I had 2 12 hour days working on getting projects back and James needed some help with his Chemistry as his final test is Thursday. Then on the weekend I was working on tax receipts. So not many free minutes.

There was some wild wind but now things have calmed down and it wasn't even too cold out as I was putting the garbage and recycling out.

We had an uncharacteristic jump in cases today- 5 at once. It has been a while since we were that high. Hopefully a blip but we'll see.
