Halloween

Today we had a TA meeting in the morning so I picked up some snacks at Tim's. Luckily I beat the crowd by about a minute. It is a pretty small Tim's so it doesn't take much to fill the line. Other than TA meeting I worked on a lot of other course issues. I didn't make it through all of my email today. I have tomorrow off, hopefully uploading the last essays for the essay course. I didn't sleep well last night, I guess because I slept well the night before, it had to even out. James had hockey practice tonight. I went shopping at Loblaws. I may pick up some reduced candy tomorrow.

sad but beautiful

Brook's celebration was very very beautiful but so so sad. https://vimeo.com/189559826/052080c94c The Grand was full of about 800 people suffering the loss of this wonderful person. She was very celebrated. Afterwards, I headed in to work as the students had a project due. I had not much appetite so I did not have any need of dinner. Today, I slept well for the first time in a long time. Went to Rustle in the morning. We are still grappling with the sadness. Then work again as I needed to get things ready for the marking meeting tomorrow morning. Now back to do some housecleaning.

rolling

Yesterday we left kingston at 2pm and arrived at the Toronto Center for the Arts around 5pm. We went to Jack Astors for dinner and I had the "big bowl" of Bombay chicken curry: Chicken, curry, rice, cucumber raita, fried cauliflower, naan bread The bowl was indeed big but the portion was normal sized. I liked the fried caulifower- it was a nice touch. The naan bread wasn't as good as Indian restaurants and was only really half a naan but it was still good. At 7pm we had the event, which went pretty well. I answered a lot of question. Then at 9pm we hopped on the bus and headed back. The bus driver was kind enough to drop me at the Kingston Center instead of at Queen's so I had less of a walk home at midnight. I had a dentist appt at 8am so I had to be up early and walk back to the kingston Center. After the dentist a long day at work. Brook's celebration of life will be on Saturday: http://www.thewhig.com/2016/10/27/she-was-so-inspiring

Due to Lynann being sick, I am on a bus to a Toronto parent event. Luckily the bus has Wifi so I can keep up with my work! (fingers crossed)

A most exhausting week

It was a very long week. I worked more hours than I should. I slept and ate very little. Hoping that next week things will improve.

Pants-gate

James has outgrown his boys XL pants but is too small for Adult small. But the boys XL grew unsustainable to he said he would wear adult S with shorts underneath. He had one pair of black pants that he liked. I tried to get pants that he liked and when I got home he seemed happy. But this morning he disqualified the pants. So we were pretty upset with each other. Him because he had to wear pants that he didn't like and me because he didn't appreciate his lovely new pants. But after work we came to a truce. Tomorrow I have a long day of exams- 7:30am-9:30pm.

What a difference a day makes

Saturday Sunday Sometimes people when drunk do silly things. Like slapping a police horse. In this era of everything on video when you do dumb things not only do you get kicked down by said police horse, someone videos the whole incident and it blows up all over the internet and you get very popular in ways you had not planned.

A nice day for a party

The weather is beautiful out today in contrast to homecoming last year which was cold and rainy. This was good for some things last year.

This year we only have #1 and 2.
I went into work today to get things set up for the midterm. People were already drinking and festive at 9:30am. When I left at 2:30pm, there were lots of police out. I got to see the mounted police thanks to the homecoming party.
People were much more drunk at 2:30pm.

I did some buying in Thanksgiving sales- got a nice dress and some boots. Who knew that there would be Thanksgiving sales?

Homecoming

This weekend is Homecoming and it is midterm week next week so that will be a challenge for the students.

Thursday was a very long day. Next week will be busy but it will be better than usual as Tabitha will be helping me. That makes for less of a long week than in previous years at least.

sleep

I slept a lot yesterday. I took a nap from 4-5:30pm then went to bed at 11pm and slept until 8am. Catching up on some lost sleep I think.

Had a good time at Rustle. Went in to work to finish up group making for Module 3.

Tomorrow I need to make a marking guide for the essay course.

tap

I recently received a credit card with a "tap" feature that you can use on purchases under $100 to pay without putting your PIN in. While less secure, it is certainly very convenient!

I don't have meals ordered for the next few weeks because there weren't good choices. But for the week of Oct 25th I am working on placing an order.

One meal that is a defniate yes is the Italian Pork Bolognese. Their fresh pasta is so much better than the dry pasta that I typically buy.

The other options that I am considering are:

White pepper steak with salt and vinegar potatoes and Brussels sprout salad

or

Tempeh tikka masala with tempeh, heirloom carrots and couscous

waxers

Claire posted this link about a hockey parent fight. I read it with bated breathe as James was going to play the Waxers tonight. But the article was about the A team not the AAA team, so I was less worried.

James' team beat the Waxers but they didn't play very well as they thought it would be an easy win. They have games Saturday and Sunday as well and a tournament next weekend.

I was pleased to get a bit ahead on my work today!

Vegetarian week

This week Monday was especially busy with work, we had a training session at 5:30pm and then a board meeting right after. We said goodbye to Corrine with a cake, so that was my dinner that day.
Tuesday was Roasted red pepper pasta:
Fresh pasta tastes so much better than dry pasta and cooks faster as well:
Making the sauce - tomatoes and onions
With cream and roasted red peppers:
 Adding in the pasta:
With basil leaves. They also sent olives to put on top, but I don't care for them.
 Wednesday was Coconut curry

Making the sauce with veggies and coconut milk

On top of black rice which smelled weird but tasted good. I don't know if the sauce thickened correctly, it was still pretty runny. Tasted good though - not too hot!

Saturday off

It was my first Saturday off in a month. I needed to go in today because I had a number of things to prepare for the week.
Tomorrow I have a TA training until 6:30pm and then straight into a Rustle board meeting.
I got a bit of cleaning in Saturday but there is still lots to do.

Revenge of the bird's eye chili pepper

After eating the noodle meal my mouth and nose were burning but after some time that died down as one would expect.

When I went to take my bath though, I guess the water set things off. My hand that had touched the pepper started to burn and my mouth and nose started burning again. The hand hadn't burned before the bath. They were still burning when I went to bed. Today my mouth feels burned but much better!
