Chipotle in adobo

Today I was supposed to be done work at 3:30pm but I didn't leave until 7pm. The students had their project due today so that made things especially busy.

Last night I made a dish with chipotle in adobo and it was very spicy. I only slept for about 4 hours I think because the spiciness upset my stomach. It was very spicy! My mouth was burning afterward.

 Cilantro lime rice:
With chipotle spiced peppers and beans
Pico de gallo and avocado on the side.
Just a bit too hot!

Famous munchkin

James' team made the local paper- he was pretty pleased:

I made a turkey bake:

They said to make 8 meatballs
But when I was cooking them I was worried that the meatballs wouldn't cook through, so I broke them up a bit.
They cooked in the oven in a marinara sauce with spinach and cherry tomatoes.
 Cooked!
 With rosemary ciabatta
Glad they weren't stolen this week!

no stolen dinner

This week I met the UPS guy on his delivery to make sure it was not stolen. He advised me to file a police report for last weeks incident, which I did. Today was a very busy one so I made the one listed as the shortest one - Chinese chicken salad- it had lots of veggies:

James had to leave pretty early for the last game in the neverending series with Northumberland. They each won 2 games and on Sunday they tied, so they were pretty equal. Tonight again they were tied with only a minute left and with 46 seconds left James' team scored! They were pretty happy!

Red skies and chasing rainbows

I woke up this morning to a brilliant red sky but by the time I got outside to photograph it had become only pink. But then I turned around and there was a rainbow! Hello freezing rain warning day, it looks like the skies are going to be busy.

2 weeks

2 weeks left of term and they will be very busy. Something planned almost every evening. Kim's church has a guest speaker- Lydia Marrow. I am too busy to go but I can watch online. Tomorrow I have Rustle in the morning and then work afterwards. James has a game in Orilla so leaves at 9:30am. There is a freezing rain warning so we'll have to see how the day goes.

missing dinner

I was so looking forward to the Chef's plate this week as it looked particularly good but the box never turned up. They say it was delivered at 12:38 but it was not on the porch where it normally is. So sad to have missed this.

But the good point of today was that my mother's envelope with childhood memories arrived.
From what was written by my grade 5 teacher I haven't changed much " Aphra is a hard working self starter who has enjoyed success in all areas this term. Her appetite for work seem almost insatiable"

overhang

Winter is trying to hang on even with the melting temperature of +1

I have been watching a livestream of the past few weeks of an eagle nest in Florida. On Mar 14 the 73 day old baby eagle fell out of the nest (A 73 day old eaglet is not small, also not very graceful) He spent the day on the ground with mom and dad eagle bringing him fish. He spends the night on the ground but luckily there aren't many predators for a giant baby eagles so he is fine. In the morning the baby tries flying and is able to fly laterally but not up to the nest. But eventually he climbs a tree nearby to the nest and takes a run for the nest and makes it. Home, sweet nest!

Recovery

I woke up at 4:30am and couldn't get back to sleep. Eventually I got up and went to Loblaws. It was a slow moving day but I did a lot of dishes and laundry. Made some cupcakes tonight for Sarah's birthday.

Earlier in the week I made Korean beef fried rice:

It was a neat technique- I cooked the sticky rice first and then fried it with the veggies and meat which made for an interesting texture to the rice.

I liked the shadows in this picture:

Patrick

The festivities of St. Patricks day began early as everything was already getting rolling as I walked into work. The party in the city streets rolled all day. Things had moved inside by the time I was walking home but there were clearly intoxicated people as I walked by.

One guy asked me where the beach was. I told him where lake ontario was but said it wasn't much of a beach. He said that was ok, he would take water. A short time later there was a report that someone had fallen in the water and I wondered if it was my friend. Though there were probably others doing the same thing.

storm

The last few days I have been working on a marking guide which has kept me up late. I finally got  it all sent off this morning.

The Queen's network was having issues today resulting in a slow working day. I have a lot to do tomorrow.

The storm arrived today and there was a bad accident this afternoon with a chemical spill so KGH is in a "code orange" dealing with the injured. We haven't had a huge amount of accumulation but the roads are pretty slippy- I saw a number of vehicles have to drive sideways across roadways to make forward motion.

I took this photo on Markland on Sunday:

Because of the storm they wrapped the chef's plate box
Bur when they wrapped it in the bad they turned it upside down so things were a bit higgeldy piggeldy
Irish pot pie in honour of St. Patrick's day
 Veggies
 Chicken
 Frying together
 With gravy
With biscuits (though the batter was too sticky it was difficult to form)
 Cooked
 To be eaten!

fill in

Yesterday Lynann messaged me to say that they needed another speaker for the March Break open house (she does the big room and I do the smaller room) so I had to change my Saturday plans.

Last night James hung out with Duncan and left his ipad at home. The messages from his friends still show up and were quite funny. They were all talking hockey in a way that only teenage boys can do.

In the last week here were the chef's plate meals:

Mediterranean Turkey Meatballs

This was supposed to be an olive tabbuleh but I didn't put the olives in. Don't like them. Blech.
 With cracked wheat
 Turkey meatballs with Mediterranean spices
 With fried chick peas
And hummus dressing. They always have good combinations.
Coriander crusted chicken. I forgot to take the picture before I started cutting up the apple.
Salad with apple, arugula, tomatoes, feta. Coriander crusted chicken tenders.

Broken winter

This morning, the zipper on my winter coat broke. I hoped that this would mean that winter was over but the temperature is to drop back down to -20.

I got behind this week working through timetabling and that backed up my email. But I got mostly on top of it today.

The weekend will be spent working on a marking guide.

My mother sent me some cute things that I made as a kid :)

cruel chill

After the spring weather last week the -20 weather is a real slap in the face. However, the birds seem to still be singing so I take it they don't care and are still feeling like spring is here.

Yesterday, I was mainly playing catch up- lots of dishes to wash and laundry to do. I cleaned a bathroom, make pizza and brownies as well.
I caught up on most of my work email. Have to tackle personal email today.

The announcement that there will be a new drive through Tim's at the Kingston Center makes me wonder if the Tim's that is at Princess and McDonnell is doomed?

winter again

The weather turned colder and aren't the days supposed to get shorter. My days got longer. Yesterday was long but today was longer. Many meetings, emails etc. One thing that was going on was the safety training for my students.

While the students were in the shop doing the safety training I was working on the timetabling papers.
I was kneeling on the ground working when one of my students passed by and asked if he could help me. I said I was working on timetabling. He laughed and laughed and laughed. I wasn't sure if he was laughing because I was in the hallway working on timetabling or that he has asked to help with timetabling or if he was just laughing at timetabling in general.

Ash Wednesday

Today there was a service at Rustle for Ash Wednesday with Next. It was a wonderful holy experience. As we were leaving a person from the neighbourhood asked if "something was wrong" and I explained that it was a service.

It was ginger noodle dinner:

 Veggies:
 With miki noodles
 With egg and sesame seeds
A good mixture and healthy too!
