Cat fight

I woke at 4:30am to the sound of what I initially thought was a cat fight. It went on for a long time so eventually I got up to see if I could see anything. The noise was coming from the front. When I got to the front I couldn't see anything but I realized that the noise was not cats but another animal that I had heard coming from the same area before. Maybe racoons? Maybe there was a nest? I never figured out what or who the fight was about but it is one of the hazards of sleeping with the windows open.

I spent the day working through the timetabling for next year.

May 30- the day that the oriental peony blooms

Facebook told me that on May 30 2013 I posted that the Oriental Peony bloomed. It bloomed again May 30 2016!

Earlier this week I made pork scallopini with naan bruchetta. It was surprisingly good and very easy to make.

There is another pretty flower in the garden as well.

so far

While I feel like I have been quite busy, I have not accomplished as much as I though I would today. In total I did 6 loads of laundry - whites, darks, reds (James' soccer uniform is red so I did the reds all as one), 2 loads of delicates (lights and darks) and one load of sheets.

I went to Shoppers as they had a lot of things one sale (though they don't often have the stock if it is a very good sale!)

The pizza crust for dinner tonight is making in the breadmaker.

Still have some more hours to accomplish things this evening!

Work day

Today is a work day around the house. I have to work double time because tomorrow we are heading to Kim's in Harrowsmith after Rustle so won't get anything done chore-wise. I am on the third load of laundry so far. Have washed dishes and gone to Loblaws and made lunch. Let's see how the afternoon goes.

Happy birthday to my mom!

Happy birthday to my mom.

This will be a long post, we can say in honour of her birthday.

I had the day off today. I went to pick up some groceries at Giant Tiger. On the way there I ran into Diana who was on her way to meet Lisa. A few minutes later I ran into Tanya who was on her way to meet her mother. It was funny that I saw them both at about the same time as I thought they might be meeting together it was that close, but it was evidently coincidental.

The reason my garden smells nice:

The reason my desk at work smells nice (thank you gift):

Today I made the best Chef's Plate recipe so far- Cheeseburger slider salad:

Cutting up a mini cucumber to make pickles:
Making quick pickles!
 Making the sliders (mini patties):
 Cooking the sliders:
Sauce for the salad- mayo, olive oil and leftover pickling juice
 Making croutons:
The croutons were cooked in the same pan as the sliders and they absorbed all the leftover juice and toasted up quite nicely.
 Cooked sliders:
Putting it all together- salad + sliders + pickles+ croutons + YUM!

After dinner I went to the Kingston House of Prayer. Spora was evidently playing. It was nice to see Jeff again. The meeting is in a very small room so it is hard to be as reclusive as I like to be.

James had soccer tonight and they won 15-0.

Tomorrow is James' big clarinet performance at school. In honour of Oma of course!

win 10

Last night my computer decided it wanted to update to windows 10 all on its own. It finished at 4am and woke me up. Not impressed with the update that I didn't ask for!

I watched the B-ette last night- looks like a season of drama!

Miracle on ice

As a follow up to my previous post, my father figured out what the birds were. One was a Redstart and one a Magnolia warbler. No idea why they were both in my trees that day. I haven't seen them since. When I was walking home today I saw some large birds circling that may have been osprey. A good bird watching week.

James was in a hockey tournament this weekend. The team he was playing on was a cobbled together team of individuals and the teams they were playing against were entered as teams (you could sign up either way). The first game they played against James' new AAA team (mostly). They lost 10-0. The next two games I don't know who they played but they won. The fourth game they played again James' old AA team (mostly) and they lost 4-0. Despite being a cobbled together team, they won enough to make the semi-finals and they were up against James' old AA team. They decided to play a defensive game and kept the score to 0-0 and won in a shootout. And I thought they didn't have a change of making it to the finals but they did. They ended up in the finals against a team that beat James' new AAA team (remember they lost 10-0 there). This team was from Quebec. Now James' team lost but only 4-0. They again played a defensive game and so were playing quite well together by the end and got to play 6 games, so really did quite well and James was very pleased with his silver medal. He called it the Miracle on Ice. James asked to order pizza to celebrate. I'm planning on ordering enough so that I don't have to cook tomorrow either. Makes it easy for me!

bird

There were some little birds in the back canopy of my garden. One was a little black bird, about the size of a sparrow that had orange patches on its wings. The other looked like a goldfinch but with some extra stripes on the body. I couldn't find a match in the Eastern Bird book. Any ideas?

Bobcat

Posted by Natural Resources Canada- see who was caught on the beaver cam at Kouchibouguac National Park.

Yesterday I went to Food Basics after work. When I went to check out, the guy behind me in line was quite obviously under the influence of drugs. He was acting like a child who had to go to the bathroom, jumping back and forth. I very much wanted to fix his pants as they were hanging so low that it was impeding his ability to walk. This didn't seem to bother him though and I didn't want to mess with the new fashion. I guess women sometimes wear shoes that impede their ability to walk properly as well. Slaves to fashion!

Sorry, I got distracted from the story. He was talking to me in line, just fine but when it came to check out his items he stared blankly at the cashier. She was probably in her late teens but she handled it well. She asked him if he wanted bags. He stared at her blankly. She put up her fingers and said and signed "1" or "2". He still didn't answer. She said one then and he nodded. She gave him two and packed them for him. (Normally in Food Basics you pack your own) He was buying hungry man dinners and ice cream. When he saw that she had packed them for him, he was very happy and grateful. I am glad that she treated him well as he seemed to be a nice guy deep down, just clouded with drugs.

Walking home at the intersection of University and Princess I saw a rat run into traffic in broad daylight. He didn't make it across the road before he realized the error of his way and turned back. He was BIG.

I took the day off today to take the car in to get the Winter tires taken off. I needed to buy new All-seasons as due to some misalignment the old ones had been ruined. The Winter ones are good for next winter still.

Tonight is the survivor finale! I am making brownies to sustain me through it.

Winter coats

Today I saw a few people wearing winter coats. Can't say that you see that often on May 16!
I wore a warm spring one and was ok.

James has been doing outdoor soccer practice for some weeks already. This week they up it to practicing 2 nights a week. He has hockey 2 nights a week and this weekend a hockey tournament. The tournament is not with a particular team- it is one where you sign up and they assign you to a team. So the teams don't know each other.

We had a a timetabling issue crop up so that is what I will be working on at work tomorrow.

Starting new

Now that James is 14 and wants more privacy, I will be closing the door on the old blog and starting a new one!

A new chapter- the banner

This morning Chris spoke with his new lay minister license. He has a great freedom and confidence in God.

I saw this on a weather site:

"Fun" Fact: It's currently 4c in Pangnirtung, Nunavut which is warmer than most areas in Southern Ontario.

It was definitely cool today. James is wondering if he'll get a snow day this week.

Today is also Pentecost Sunday which is when provision, revelation and power came to Church by the Holy Spirit, so a great day to celebrate a new blog!
