teenage sideswipe

Firstly, I wanted to wish my brother Happy birthday!

(thought abigail would appreciate)

Today teenagehood sideswiped me as the History teacher let me know that the teenager had not handed in his final project and so was not getting his history credit! I just about passed out. And then he wasall like- oh, I just handed it in  the wrong dropbox. And then I was relieved. But THEN the teacher let me know that well, now he had submitted it but it wasn't the what was required in the project instructions. She then sent me the instructions. Cue the passing out again.

Instead of having a day off tomorrow, he will be working on this project!

fighting the ice

Monday the ice was anticipated later in the day so the school buses were cancelled, but the morning was fine so James went to school. He had a science test to catch up on after his tournament.
Queen's cancelled evening classes. The walk home was indeed slippery in places. Close to Queen's the sidewalks were ok but further out I walked on the street.

Today the ice was here so the buses weren't running but by the afternoon things were quite nice (above 0) and I peeled up sheets of ice from the driveway.

But the temperature just took a drop and flash froze everything, so we'll see what tomorrow looks like.

When I was out today, the crows were all on the white field which I thought would make a nice picture. When I stopped though they all flew into a tree, so the picture was crows in a tree instead of crows on a field.

Today steak and shallot jam. A good recipe but I always have difficulty cooking the steaks and this one had quite a bit of gristle. The shallot jam was good and the potatoes were perfect.

kumquat

It was a busy week as week 2 of term.

James is in Peterborough for a tournament.

Trying to get the house cleaned and to prepare for tomorrow- speaking at Rustle on Jonah.

Meals this week- I had never used kumquats before- it worked out well.

Their pasta is always good- the fire roasted tomatoes has some kick.

no answers

Yesterday James' game was cancelled due to the weather.

Today the roads were good for his game tonight in Richmond Hill.

I did a lot of snow shoveling- some before Rustle, some after.

At Rustle after the service I talked/prayed with some people and in almost every case there were questions that were unanswerable. Sometimes it is just enough to get the question out.

flash dump

Yesterday, the weather had warmed enough there was some green poking through but the temperature took a drop and by morning there was a new pile of snow on top of the ice. About knee deep.

The dinners this past week were good. Chicken with sundried tomato pasta:

 Pork spring roll bowl

I make the wonton wrappers a bit too crispy but they were still very good.

This morning

Somehow a Wendy's flyer got frozen to the back of the car.

flash freeze

The temperature went up and then started to drop again. My walk home was fine but my hair did flash freeze, it was quite funny.

Work did take longer than I hoped today.

Tomorrow James has to be on a bus by 10am and I still need to iron his clothes for tomorrow + head out to Loblaws to get him some food for the trip. So a busy start to the day!

pocky

Today the temperature had increased and it was sloppy slush on the ground. As my boots are leaky and James didn't wear his rain boots, I eyed them. They are much bigger than my size but they haven't been worn so they are not leaky. I was wearing my "reading socks" (sherpa socks as my mother says) and I found if I was wearing the super thick socks, James' boots fit just perfectly. So I had a very warm and dry walk today.

Wu and Vanessa introduced me to "pocky"- a Japanese/Korean snack. I am not quite sure why it is so crazy popular but it was interesting. James might even like it as well.

Surprise

The week was a busy one as we tried to get all our marks in as well as get everything ready for the next term. We also are having a surprise visit from Ian who drove 13.5 hours out of Moncton on the storm day. He managed to miss most of it.

Yesterday I made a lovely turkey stew (leftover turkey frozen from Christmas) and James was picking out the bits he liked (carrots, potatoes, turkey) and he said "I accidentally ate a corn". He cracks me up!

He is in Clarington for a game today and Ian has gone to watch. Ian is heading home tomorrow. Looks like the walk to Rustle tomorrow will be a chilly one but it will improve during the day (says the forecast)

An apple cider vinegar sort of day

While I have been feeling much better my stomach has still been very grumbly, especially at night. So today I picked up some apple cider vinegar and have been drinking and it seems to have taken the grumbles away, felt immediately a lot better.

When I got into work I had 230 emails. I spent all morning on them and trimmed them down to 100 by lunch. After lunch I actually had to get some work done as I'm trying to get marks out. Still have a full days work on that tomorrow. Then have to try to get websites ready for the next term!

Hello 2018!

Yesterday was a busy day with Rustle in the morning and then went to Kim's Church in the late afternoon. Was home by 9pm so in bed just after 12, which was good. Woke up at 6am because James had a short cough (not like mine) but then I couldn't get back to sleep.

It was -30 when I woke up. For some reason squirrels were up today. Of all days, shouldn't today be one they hibernate on? I watched one funny one climb down the tree, hop off into the snow and immediately hop back onto the tree to shake itself off! It did run off in the snow after that. It also looked like one slid off our roof as there were tracks that started in the middle of nowhere.

Did some work this morning to get my course ready and hope to get some cleaning done today.
