taxed

It took me a much longer time to do my taxes than I thought. All Saturday afternoon and some of the evening. I watched Lake Effect Robotics from Kingston help win the championship in Detroit on live stream.

Today worked on getting summer students oriented and getting grades in. I have all the grade adjustments set up to be entered, just need the time to do that. Still waiting for one faculty to complete the grades.

the week of running

Monday was our showcase day and I spent the week trying to get marks in. Very close to getting them done. It was a week of powering through. It will still take me another day to work on the special cases. Then another day to compile the grades

However, finding the days to do this will still be challenging. On Monday and Tuesday the summer students start and I need to prepare things for them.

rain

The "rain" has now begun. School buses cancelled but Queen's is up and rolling. I think I'll have to wear my rain boots instead of my ice boots but it is probably rain on top of ice. I value my dry feet too much!

overnight

Standing on the porch (briefly) the trees all have the crispy sound of being frozen but there doesn't seem to have been a huge build up. The temperature has been rising in the last few hours and we are now at -1, due to be +2 by morning. Hopefully overnight the melt begins.

Big day tomorrow- lots of email in my inbox. There will be some fallout from cancelled exams. Board meeting after work so a long day.

Got a lot of cleaning done today, which is good, but still a lot to do. And taxes.

clearing

We appear to have reached a break as things look clearer for us:
The temperature has gone up 1 degree. The weather website says that freezing drizzle is occuring but I don't see any evidence of that right now.

James got really into cleaning for whatever reason and so we made some headway on the house. Back to that now!

imposter snow

 daffodil in ice:
While these pictures may look like there is snow, it isn't really snow. I went out in my ice boots to see what the conditions were and the "snow" is solid and icy. Not snow at all. James laughed at my attempt. I returned as it was a bit too challenging to walk to Rustle.
We'll see what transpires the rest of the day. Hoping for warming!

wind

The wind woke me at 2am as it was very strong and blow-y. There aren't any outages showing in kingston right now. This past week city crews have been out on my walking route taking down trees (hopefully dead ones!) The forecast says freezing rain begins again at noon here. Rustle begins around 11.

ice pellets

Now we are on the line of the ice and the snow and we are in ice pellets.

exams cancelled

While no exams were cancelled in December for inclement weather, tonight they cancelled our exams. We'll see tomorrow about the exams for Sunday.

I made another trip to the green bin and it was slightly iced over but not too bad. My driveway was not icy, just the weird snow/ice mix. It is precipitating quite a bit now.

so far

I'm not sure what is going on now - it seems not to be precipitating now. The ground is a weird combination of ice and snow. Walking in the driveway was not slippery.

James was inspired to put a stick out for Humbolt
Chicken paprikash- I had never had pearly couscous before but I was surprised to love it!

Three cheese turkey penne bake

This is what things look like outside now

The freezing rain is here

It hailed for a bit about 1/2 hour ago.
I went out to put out some things in the green bin and it was definitely frozen over, but only slightly- enough that I could yank the lid off. Walking surfaces are still fine.

Ice storm approacheth

10:03am

 10:54am
wide view

Current forecasts show London and Kitchener due to receive the max amount of freezing rain- 3inches! If that happens, it certainly will be historic. I think our 1998 ice storm had 1.2 inches. Anything over 1inch I would think it would be difficult for power lines to sustain. We shall see how it goes. I was out this morning to Loblaws and Shoppers with no precipitation yet.

showcase 1 and 2

On Friday and Saturday we ran the first 2 showcases to start toward wrapping up the year. The grand finale is April 23.

This meant that I got behind in my posting so there are a multitude of pictures today.

 Cream cheese stuffed chicken
The cabbage was a special shape
 And grilled was quite yummy
with potatoes and chicken with BBQ sauce stuffed with cream cheese filling
New $20 boots. Still working on breaking them in.
 Spicy asian glazed sausage sliders
 with lemon grass
 cooked sliders
with lemongrass, cabbage and carrot veggies. I couldn't really taste the lemongrass though.
 Applewood smoked chicked
With shishito peppers broiled in the oven and mac and cheese. A good combination!
