limes and ears

The limes appear to be back in the chef's plate after being replaced by lemons for a while. Tonight was chipotle chicken fajita bowl. The onion was so large it was the same size as the pepper. It went very well.

My ears are better now. I think it may have been sinuses. I did some sinus clearing activities and that seemed to improve things.

hearing

Weirdly, my ears have gone all odd and it feels like my ears need to pop. We'll see what things are like tomorrow.

The fire yesterday was apparently significant though the fire people did put it out quickly. Today there were 3 investigation vehicles on scene.

Relative excitement

Tonight we had Mediterranean pork and beans and then around 9pm we heard sirens and all the kingston fire department descended about a block away. There was an active fire but it was hard to tell what was on fire but it seemed to be at the back of a house. But there did seem to be ambulances so it could have been more significant. They are still on site 3.5 hours later. I'll walk by tomorrow in the daylight and see if I can see anything.

make up presentation day

Today I went to Loblaws before work. It was very busy for 8am, I was surprised.

When I got home I saw on the Loblaw site that a team member from the Loblaws that I was at had tested positive so I suppose that means that there may be more workers at the Loblaws that have it as it was only a few days ago for the test. I wonder if they test everyone at the workplace when this happens. At any rate, I didn't interact with anyone as I did the self checkout. But I wondered if the many people who were there knew about the positive case. I wouldn't have thought it would be so busy.

Today at work we have make up presentations and I ran the copycheck.

James is working on an assignment for school due at midnight but I am going to bed!

Update on Increase of Cases

taxing

I ran some errands in my winter coat but things have warmed up a bit now. I have a load of laundry out and I need to wash some dishes and vacuum and then I will attack the taxes!

warming

Yesterday I didn't feel like going out because of the cold. Today it was a bit warmer. I still needed to wear my winter coat and hat. I went to Food Basics.

Cases in Kingston are coming down. Last week we were in the double digits of increase but this week we are in the single digits so that is improving.

At work I tackled email and the grade adjustment report.

On the weekend I will need to tackle taxes!

Suez incident explained

An interesting video looking at the Suez incident. Also he explains what the Titanic should have done in that incident.

Woke up to snow in the morning. While I was expecting it, looking out and seeing it was still a surprise.

I walked swiftly to Metro in the morning to pick up James' favorite meat. There was almost noone there at 8am. My students had a presentation at 9am. I had a variety of meetings during the day and tried to catch up on email and financial work.

Dinner was harissa chicken and then I did my ladies group in the evening.

preparing for snow

Apparently the forecast is shifting toward Niagara getting the worst but I was not happy about the chilly front so I didn't go out today. I was trying to keep up with the email and so I did not make much progress on other fronts.

Made golden coconut turkey curry which was pretty easy and had less dishes than usual for a chefs plate.

Mondays being more dramatic than Mondays need to

I ran some errands in the morning picking up some meals. Tacos for tonight. Dropped off the deposit.

The students had an exam this afternoon. A few hours before the exam a positive case was identified and they were working to isolate all the contacts. This made for an interesting few hours. In the evening I had a finance committee meeting. Then I made the tacos. Then James needed to do his schoolwork. Then we played geoguessr and now it is 1am.

COVID-19 risk in KFL&A for April 19, 2021

the erratic nature of amazon

Today I watched services in the morning. In the afternoon I worked on the Rustle budget. James and I played geoguesser. It was rainy all day so I didn't go out.

I ordered an amazon package on Thursday. It predicted about a week to get here but even though one item said "in stock" amazon seemed uncertain as to when it would arrive. After a few days I got an email to say that it would arrive with the rest of the shipment. I just got an email that said that it had shipped and would arrive today (Monday) - 2 days ahead of schedule, which is great but so far it is not at halton hills yet so it will likely have a busy night.

waterfront

Kim and I walked down to the water and saw swans and some ducks that we could not identify

rain

2 days of rain. Yesterday I ran some essential errands of getting Sarah to sign some cheques and sorting out Rustle finances after work. Stopping by giant tiger on the way home as James wanted some fruit by the foot (does not contain actual fruit). So many things roped off as not being essential. Like clothing.

This morning I went to Food Basics in the rain. It wasn't too busy but with only 2 cash it makes the exit lineups long. We were running out of juice and I picked up some other essentials.

Today at work I am still slogging through email and I completed the peer review report.

Tomorrow a walk with kim is planned.

sunny but not quite the laundry drying day

It was very foggy in the morning and while it got sunny after a while the laundry did not dry particularly quickly outside. It was eventually done  by the end of the day. The forecast is for rain tomorrow where it would not dry at all!

I got some walking in today by going to Loblaws and the dollar store before work. They were both not very busy, which was good. I had meetings and emails during the day. Then made pork ragu for dinner and had an e-meeting in the evening with a group of ladies from Toronto.

the grass is growing

I didn't get out for a couple of days thanks to the timetable and interview schedule. I did have to run an errand to shoppers and then took a walk after dinner to make up for it.

This morning I got up early for Dave's online funeral. It was short but sweet. I had a lot of meetings in the morning, still trying to catch up on email.

the grass is greener

When I looked outside this morning the grass seemed greener, so I guess yesterday's rain was beneficial.

This morning I went to food basics. It wasn't too busy but of the people who were there their trolleys were very full, which I suppose is good to stock up for the stay at home order. But there were only 2 cash desks open so that slowed things down a lot. I had been going for meat, cheese and juice so I was relatively successful.

Then I went to shoppers for a couple of things. Not too busy but a lineup at the checkout as there was only 1 cash open. I used the self checkout so that went faster. The lady at the cash was buying lottery tickets. How can they be roping off clothing as inessential but yet lottery tickets are essential? That seems a bit ridiculous.

They closed Breakwater park because they didn't want the students to gather and so noone is able to enjoy this beautiful day there. However, this likely just pushes them indoors which is where the virus is more transmissible from what the information seems to suggest so I am uncertain how helpful this closure will be. I'm going to try to bike to lake ontario park. I feel like I didn't get much exercise yesterday so treating myself to a bike ride before getting back to work seems like a good idea!

octomester 7

Today was the start of octomester 7. As it was the first day, this apparently motivated James to get up early so that he could get a good seat.

Today was a 13 hour day for me. Interviews and timetabling taking up the majority of time. My email has backed up but the timetabling must be done first. I have entered all of the data now. On the weekend I will need to double check the scheduled and make all the "groups" in the system to that the courses load properly.

The city closed breakwater park because too many students were going there. But if they aren't outside, they are congregating inside which I think is worse?

what is essential?

Apparently stores with both essential and inessential products need to rope off the inessential ones- essential shopping only. Unless you order from Amazon. Then you can order inessential things.

I took my first bike ride of the year today. Also the first laundry hanging. Spring is starting to appear.

There is an outbreak in the student village but it is not clear what that means. More vigilance from public health there? vaccinations? I am not sure what this declaration means.

Then the principal made a statement to try to make the students be more concerned but he said that the hospitals were at capacity. However, we only have 1 case in the hospital due to covid and we are shipping patients in from Toronto because we have capacity and Toronto does not. So I don't think saying things like that and then accepting patients from Toronto is going to have an impact on students. They are smarter than that.

long day

Today was a very long day with meetings and interviews while also trying to manage the timetabling.

I had some technical difficulties with the laptop loosing the internet but made it through most everything.

I tried to choose the shortest dinner to make but it turned out to be more complicated than I thought- I managed it in less than an hour though!

a large bonfire

The neighbours had a very high bonfire like  a whole story high. I looked out today to see if there was any damage but it seemed to be well controlled and all good.

I went to food basics in the morning. It wasn't too busy. But there was no good leftover easter chocolate!

We had a Bell outage just as I was about to run a training session.

I am still working on timetable info. In the evening I was up late preparing for the interviews tomorrow.

2 walks

Yesterday I had 2 walks- one with Kim and one with Deborah. It was nice to be social and active for a bit.

I am wrestling with the timetable to try to get it to work- all the uncertainty about the format is not helping things.

And it is due on Friday but I have so many things this week that it will be a long week.

package fail

while both packages made it to glenburnie staging something happened to the first half and the amazon note was that the packages was damaged and being sent back to the sender. Ok not I have a lot of questions- did it fall off the truck? Did another package explode?

Today I went to the Rustle installation. The last time we will be open for 4 weeks due to the lockdown.

the package race

Both halves of my amazon order arrived in glenburnie this morning. Does intelcom rest for Good Friday? I suspect not.

There is an instillation at Rustle for Good Friday that I plan to head to this morning.

The other day I was walking up College St. while the intelcom van was delivering and it made so many stops that I found I was walking at the same pace as an intelcom van.

emergency brake

Just when things were improving for even people in Toronto the emergency brake is applied even to areas like us where things are relatively under control. It is hard to imagine being back at work in Sept if in April we are still under lockdown. But who knows?

On Saturday I placed an amazon order and the timeline it gave me at first was 2 weeks, which was longer than usual but fine. Then they said half of it would arrive this Sat and the other half in a week. Now the half that was to arrive on Sat is at Halton Hills. Normally after it arrives at Halton Hills we get it the next day so I assumed that the Saturday day was given because they don't work good Friday. Also fine. But then I just got an email about the second half and it is to be arriving tomorrow. It is also being shipped tomorrow. Even though it says it had shipped tomorrow so the tenses are all wrong. I guess I'll see tomorrow what progress is made.

Dinner was a carribean turkey bowl. I especially liked the potatoes and the mango salsa. Tomorrow is beef biryani.

Next week the timetable is due but I have a week full of meetings so I will need to do some work this weekend.
