cough meds

I stopped taking cough meds a few days ago as I continue to improve. I still have a cough but getting better.

James had a good time on his school trip.

Came back and played a AAA game Friday night.

Then an AAA trip to Whitby today. The bus broke down but he made it home ok.

Shallow starring Jessica Reinl and Christopher Halligan

This is a cover of a song but I thought they did it much better than the original

bus trip

On Monday evening the worst of my sickness broke and I am just left with a cough. Not fun but better.
I worked in Monday from home and got all the course budget stuff done.
Yesterday I dosed up on cough meds and went to work for a workshop that may not have been the greatest use of my time.
Today luckily for James the freezing rain warning ended and the roads are just sloppy now (though our driveway is ice) and he got to go on a bus trip with his school hockey team. They travel by school bus not the posh coach of the AAA team. They are going to Toronto for a tournament. They play at 10:45 and 2:30 and then they are planning on ordering all kinds of horrible food at the hotel and playing xbox all night. James has a AAA game Friday night and I asked him about the bad food affecting him. He said "We'll eat healthy Friday". OK then, we'll see. bad food and no sleep I'm sure will be great for his game. But he was looking forward to it.

Tea at 4am

Last night I must have fallen asleep around 9pm, shortly after I wrote the blog post. I woke up around midnight as James was stomping around getting ready for bed. Then I slept ok until 4am, when I had a coughing fit. So I got up and made tea and was up until about 6am when I made it back to sleep and up at 11am. Took it easy again today but maybe did a bit more. My lungs may be a bit looser. Progress is slow.

round 2

Earlier in the week I had a cold and with the rest day on Tuesday I was doing much better. I had even stopped the Vicks treatment but on Friday Round 2 seemed to hit and it was much worse than Round 1. I don`t know if it was the same thing or if it was just Round 1 returned with a vengeance. The result is that I spent much of the weekend in bed.

James came by and prayed for me and this was the prayer, which cracked me up but also spoke truth to me.

"Dear Jesus, Aphra is sick, please send help"

I thought it was well said for prayers where we are petitioning God for things, really we are saying- please send heavenly help.

Spending much of the weekend in bed resulted in my watching a lot of you tube videos:

The American national womens gymnastic competition from 2018
The Womens gymnastics world competition from Doha in 2018
Some murder mysteries
Live stream of elevation church this morning
Live stream from the Peace Tower church conference yesterday.

cough

The weather felt like a much ado about nothing as all we ended up with was about a foot of snow.

In resting on Tuesday I felt like I was mostly over the cold but these last 3 days have been very intense at work and last night I had one coughing fit in the night and tonight seems to be all coughing all the time. I have re-Vicksed and taken some cough syrup and hope to get some more sleep tonight.

limboland

Steve coined the term "limboland" for where we sit now. They are saying still many hours of snow left but we don't seem to have received a lot of snow and it sounds kind of like freezing rain now even though it is -8. The schools are quite likely to have no buses if they are open but Queen's has a lower bar. They will make the call at 6am.

I haven't put the garbage and recycling out because I am unsure if it would be buried by morning. I will do that first thing tomorrow morning.

Tomorrow we have many training sessions scheduled and there is a midterm to run in the evening. So I am hoping that Queen's is running.

It was good to rest today to work on feeling better. Bob is doing better and they are planning to discharge him in a few days from the hospital.

We will see what tomorrow holds.

storm day

James woke me at 6:30am to let me know that the schools would be closed today. So no sleep in for me!
I have been fighting a cold so have been staying home mainly watching videos.
Queens cancelled classes starting at 12:30. The storm has really only started here so we'll have to see how things go for tomorrow.

Hearts

On Thursday Bob N. had a heart attack. He was scheduled for bypass surgery on Monday but last night did not go well so they did the surgery today. He got through it pretty well. He will need lots of rest to recover. I did a prayer walk around the hospital on Friday and took these pictures. All the rocks were covered with ice.

James told me that one of his friends also has to have heart surgery soon.

 From the storm

Temperature went up after the photo was taken so the ice on the car melted itself off.

Re-vulturing an ice storm

While the buses are not  running again to the schools due to road conditions, it doesn't seem to have hit in the way that people were predicting. People seem to be walking and driving outside without much difficulty. The trees don't have the weighed down look that often accompanies a heavy ice storm. I can see ice on them, just not the heavy weighted look. I have not been outside yet so all this is not from experience but from visuals. The university is open so I will be heading into it soon.

I just found a picture of the expected ice storm and we for once did not get hit as hard as St. Catharines

Re-vulturing a midterm

Today the university closed at 3pm. The roads weren't too bad but there was concern evidently that it would get worse. There was a midterm scheduled in the evening. As we were trying to figure out what to do, my email was exploding with people asking what to do. In events like this we can't reply to people individually, we send emails to the whole class. We are now trying to move it to Friday evening. A lot of things to do tomorrow, assuming the university is open tomorrow.

re-vulturing the boots

The last few days it has been above zero so everything is melting and I have been wearing my rain boots. They have some grip on them so I don't slip when the puddle is over ice.

The days before that there was a lot of snow so I wore my snow boots (they aren't pretty but an $8 find from S&R many years back, they work well for snow)

Today with forecast ice pellets and freezing rain, it will be my cleat boots that I will wear. School buses are cancelled due to the threat of freezing rain. So day 2 for James will not be happening. He seemed quite happy with Day 1.

re-vulturing

  • One of my students emailed to say they were "re-vulturing" their life. Nat figured out that this probably meant "re-evaluating".
  • I suggested to James that he re-vulture his term class load as he has a heavy academic load and I'm not sure such a heavy academic load is best for him. He could take another physical education course. But for right now he is happy with his courses. He has English, French, Physics and Chemistry.
  • Tomorrow we have lots of student meetings then a training session so a busy day
