corona lockdown day 5

Only 5 days in and it is already getting old, just wait for day 105.
At 6am I was woken by my phone that I forgot to switch off. Someone gave a thumbs up to a post on facebook and my phone thought it was important that I know. My phone was wrong.

It was a productive day at work and a number of us learned that we would be working from home, including me. But who knows if it is too late as the virus is closing closer and closer and there are now 3 people in Kingston with the virus and I'm starting to have people who know people with it, so it is creeping closer.

I ran out of vegetables and was too worried about the state of emergency to try a store thinking that may have caused more drama in the stores.

Tomorrow I have the day off work due to all my evening and weekend interviews. There is a nationwide online communion service tomorrow at 1pm run by the same people I went to the Grimsby conference with. 1400 people signed up yesterday and I expect it will be more by the time it runs as they only opened sign up yesterday. Also Chef's plate is due to arrive.

corona lockdown day 4

Today is Monday. It took me some time to come up with the day. As I had late interviews today I had the morning off. I went to Loblaws before 8am as we were out of juice and James drinks a lot of juice. Loblaws was also mostly out of the juice he likes but I got a few cans. I did not check the paper products at Loblaws because I was pretty focused on getting the items on my list and getting out. I went to the self checkout and there were signs that said only 2 paper products per person. Rationing the paper products. This maybe should have started earlier. That is the theme of the corona virus lockdown.

Then a friend posted that her daughter was sick and she needed some things. So I popped by Giant Tiger and over to her place with some gingerale and crackers and things.

On to work to a corona response meeting. Lots of difficult decisions in the works. After the meeting we received an email that banned meetings of more than 10 people. Luckily the meeting of the 20 people was over by the time we read it.

Then interviews as usual, emails as usual.

Email from the city not to put tissues in the green bin. I think there already are tissues in the green bin though. Maybe I can dump it in the backyard to make the birds happy.

Corona lockdown day 3

Yesterday was nice enough to hand laundry outside for a little bit. Today was back to Winter Coat weather.

Today at Rustle Aleesha who is a Masters of public health student spoke about the importance of hand washing before the message. She said that there was a correlation between increased handwashing and the decrease of influenza as well as the coronavirus. Then Ebe spoke on Psalm 139. There were still a lot of students around. As Kingston currently doesn't have any cases and other places do, people are feeling safer here. We'll see if St. Pats changes anything in that department.

I went to work after Rustle and tried to deal with covid decision emails and had some interviews. We have a covid planning session tomorrow.

I did find some meat at Metro but now we are almost out of juice. I am not doing very well at being stocked up for 2 weeks.

Corona lockdown day 2

Everyone still appears well.

While all official hockey is cancelled, unofficial hockey is not. James still couldn't play because of the recovery from the concussion, but he coached as his AAA team played the girls provincial team.

This morning I went to Loblaws early and it was still busy despite not having a lot of essentials. There was no meat, which is what I had gone out to buy. Chili tonight with no meat is on order. We are eating through the pandemic supplies before the virus has arrived due to the hysteria. There is no toilet paper anywhere so this is increasing the desperation before the virus arrives.

Today was supposed to be a party for St. Pat's on Aberdeen. We just have to wait and see if that happens.

For the rest of the day will be in the house, likely reading Frankenstein to James.

the wind

The wind is very strong during the day. Not sure if it is blowing the virus in or out!

Today's meal was only pasta because the grocery stores were too wild to brave today so have no meat.

Brian was supposed to be flying out for March break today. I wonder if he actually left. Because if he did he'll be in quarantine when he returns so progress on work will be slow.

Corona lockdown day 1

Today started out looking like a normal day on track to deal with the corona issue step by step over the next week. But it shortly came down that classes are cancelled next week and then everything rather fell apart. Despite having no cases here, the pressure of other universities taking the same plan likely had some affect.

So they want so large gatherings of groups of people. However, this week is St. Patrick's so historically the site of large parties. So I'm not convinced that the cancellations will be all that useful if that continues.

The grocery stores were too scary to attend today, not for virus concerns but for hysteria concerns. I'll plan to try my shopping tomorrow early.

This also has caused us lots of discussion for the Rustle board for how to handle our gathering. Looking at increasing sanitizing and health practices.

The virus closes in

Hockey is cancelled and march break is 3 weeks long. Will it stop the outbreak? Will it allow James to catch up on his homework?

So far there are no cases in Kingston. And so, we wait.

While official events are being cancelled, apparently unofficial events like the St. Patrick's day party are still on.

In the game on Sunday James got hit. He seemed fine of Sunday night but got checked out on Monday at the hospital and was diagnosed with a minor concussion so is off school today.

I contemplated hanging laundry out today due to the sun. However, the negative temp stayed me from the task.

I did all my shopping before 9:30am. Working on household tasks and not going in to work today!

Virus threat dramas

One of my students from China was talking with me about how they didn't feel it was safe to return in April when classes were done but that he thought that things would be better by June, so that is hopeful news from one area.

I have an early meeting of the timetable committee this morning and then a board meeting in the evening and a final presentation schedule to work out in the middle.

I spent the weekend working on the timetable. Then we have a lot of things going on with the course. There was a train derailed in Kingston today which James found very exciting. At first there was a concern about what was spilled but it seems to have turned out not to be a danger. But the train is blocking a major road artery.

James' hair has reached a steady state that is more like orange than blonde but still looks good.

The weather has stopped the buses for 2 days. Last night we had our Ash Wednesday service and the sidewalks were so icy I chose a route of backstreets so that I could walk on the street rather than sidewalks. I have been wearing my cleats for the last few days!

James has become a blonde for the playoffs. So far it has been helping, I guess.

This week is a busy one- there are lots of marks to come in, timetabling to be done and the final showcase schedule to do.

Harrowsmith

Yesterday I went to Rustle in the morning and went to both services. Al was speaking. Both services were supposed to be the same but they seemed to diverge so I was glad to have gone to both as they were not the same!
Then Kim picked me up to go out to Harrowsmith. We had a lovely lunch of lasagna. Kim didn't put garlic, onions or salt in mine and I liked it very much but Kim thought it was weird. We went for a walk on the K&P trail nearby and saw a lot of snowmobiles. Then we went to her church in the evening.
Today I spent the day reviewing budget submissions for projects.

Frankenstein

James is supposed to read Frankenstein for his English class. I told him that Nat would be proud if he did, but I am not sure how much this has inspired him.

We have been up at 5am for hockey the last 2 days. Bedtime at 9pm now!
