The big move

Today I (along with many others) helped Sarah on her move. They moved 2 houses and a storage unit into one large house. We started by doing some carloads of things that couldn't travel in the moving truck. Then there were 3 shipments with the truck. They are all installed now, just having to clean up the old house. My body is tired, hopefully will sleep well!

US championships

On Friday the US gymnastics championships day 1 started at 10pm as it was in arizona so I stayed up late to watch it. On Saturday I woke up at 5am which I didn't think was odd as I normally get up at 6am. But as I had been up late the night before I was still tired and then went back to bed and slept very late, making getting to sleep Saturday evening hard. Then I did wake up at 6am Sunday on very little sleep but had to keep rolling as there was a lot to do.

Yesterday was not a great laundry drying day but today was awesome- 2 loads done!

Holiday Monday

On Monday Kim came into town and we had lunch with Pat. We walked to Denny's as it was close to Pat's place. Interestingly they were out of hash browns, seasoned potatoes and sausages. For the potato Kim and Pat had mashed potatoes - which I tried and hated and I have never hated mashed potatoes before. I had the tuscan potatoes which were super salty. I use so little salt, I forget when I go out that restaurants use so much salt.

Tuesday was a day of meetings with my summer students. Wednesday was an interview day and today I wrapped up my emails and was working on enrollment things.

Cascading

Yesterday, I was outside and I heard all sorts of sirens heading to the west end. Pulse point was listing many problems. A car accident, an explosion, various reports of wires down. They were all related problems. Apparently a car ran into a hydro pole this disconnected a 46,000V cable causing an arc that may have seemed like an explosion and then of course the wires were down. Because of this about 12,000 people were out of power for about 4 hours.

Tomorrow there is a weather warning for storms rolling through so will have to check in the morning so figure out what to wear!
