spring-ish

Yesterday I worked about 12 hours and walked home and it was a beautiful evening.

Today there was still a bit of a chill but it was nice enough to hang laundry and clean windows.

With exams going on, emails from students have been reduced but the ones that come in typically are more challenging to take care of.

One more week until the showcase and then things will be wrapping up.

Last night there was a suspicious car fire a block away but I am not sure what happened.

plugged

So on top of having no voice, 1 (one) of my nostrils is plugged up and it reaches to my ear. Ya, I'm falling apart.

Also the gutter on the garage is plugged and I can't get the ladder to the side to unplug it until the ice melts. Otherwise it is too dangerous to unplug.

Off to work with lozenges in hopes that will help.

beef in the instant pot

This morning a bunny was back!
My voice is still missing though.
Yesterday, I branched out from chicken and decided to try a beef roast in the IP. I cooked it the same way that I did the chicken but it required a lot more time. About 50 minutes cooking and 30 minutes resting. Made a perfect roast!
The instant pot works very well as long as you don't rush it. Despite the name, I don't think that the time it takes is less, but there is less effort and it does cook things well!
There was one evening where we were in a rush to get somewhere and the chicken hadn't finished and I had to re-instant pot it, but it turned out ok in the end.

A cold wind

A cold wind blew in during the day today.

I was very sore from all the cleaning yesterday. I clearly don't clean enough on a regular basis. I didn't think that I was doing anything so strenuous!

We had our last TA training session tonight. I worked until 8pm and then came home and watched survivor. I am liking this survivor series.

fox

A few days ago, I saw a fox cross Princess St.. He waited for a break in traffic and then bolted across the street. I have not seen the bunnies around for a while. Hopefully, they skipped town.

Today Carolyn, Karen and I cleaned the apartment above rustle as the tenant just moved out. There was lots of cat hair and cat smell. It was in better shape after a morning of cleaning. I did some shopping and some cleaning at home. Only a few days left of term.

bunny

I am getting to know the local bunnies. They don't all look the same. There is one that is a "regular" and seems quite chill with me. One day I was waiting for Kim to stop by and I was walking down the garden and I had left some apple slices that James had left over. Within a minute, the bunny was out eating the apple. Clearly, apples are a hit with the bunny.

OMHA Champs

Kingston news: https://www.thewhig.com/sports/local-sports/jr-fronts-win-kingstons-first-omha-aaa-midget-title-since-1972

James wore his red cap to school yesterday to "flex". However, I don't think many people at school knew what it meant.

An old facebook memory from 2011 made me laugh:

James was pretenting to be a hobbit as we were preparing to go out and told me that hobbits don't wear boots even in the misty mountains where there is snow. I gave him a look that must have said to him that I did not approve of HIM going without boots and he quickly indicated that he was a slightly different race of hobbit than Frodo and he put his boots on

This memory is from 2008 and still true today

is trying to email sense into people, not that it'll happen...

signs of spring

Today there were 2 bunnies in the back yard and lots of junkos so it was looking like spring in spite of the temperature and the fact that the backyard is mostly a sheet of ice.

Yesterday I worked until 10pm getting interviews set up for next week.

This past week, the car needed a major overhaul and the toaster randomly stopped working. Also my laptop sometimes has issues and is getting older so I got a new laptop that is a touch screen which I like a lot! I'm still on the old laptop for things as it takes some time to transition off.

OMHA

So IF James' team had won the Championship, they would have gone to the OMHA's. Since they lost, they got to play for a wild card spot. They won the spot and have headed to Toronto for the OMHA's. They made the paper: https://www.thewhig.com/sports/local-sports/jr-frontenacs-midgets-advance-to-omha-championship

A sad week this week as a number of friends have lost family members.

Championship loss

James' team lost the first two games of their playoff round. Then they won the next two. So today was the last game- whoever won would take the championship. James' team lost so he is sad.

crispy sloppy walk

The walk was not slippery today, just a bit crispy. The roads were getting very sloppy so this evening I will wear my rain boots. Rustle was good, not many people were deterred by the time change or the weather.

Spiky icy rain

At 4am I was awake thanks to all the spikes that were hitting my window. I guess it was freezing rain though I have not been brave enough to venture out. The weather station says that the freezing rain warning is over. It seemed to be lightly snowing the last I looked out. The weather station said light rain. The 401 also appeared to be orange on the map meaning that things are slower going. I will venture out soon.

Work bender

Last weekend I spent every free minute working on timetabling or getting course grades out. This week I worked during the day and evening M-W. I at that point started wondering when Friday was going to come. Thursday worked during the day and had a board meeting in the evening. Friday worked during the day and took the evening to catch up on tv programs- Survivor and BB Can. Idon't think I will continue to watch BB Can, I did not take to the contestants. This weekend I am focusing on the house!

A Rustler's apartment had a fire a couple of nights ago. Everyone got out safely but there is a lot of clean up to be done. A shock for her. I can't help with her clean up though as I have to clean up from ignoring the house for work for the last few weeks.
